the website of Tesserae — Urban Social Research
Tesserae — Urban Social Research is an urban research organisation based in Berlin with Florentine roots, working across sociology, art, collaborative mapping and European projects. Their output spans disciplines and takes the shape of a great many projects, publications, events and materials. The site had to hold that complexity without becoming a maze.
I worked on the design with La Pivot and handled the WordPress development on a custom theme.

The work was mainly building a system that could relate the different parts of the Tesserae archive and research: projects, news, events, publications, tools and places, organised through cross-cutting themes as well.
The visual system takes the geometric rigour of the logo into a modular structure of blocks, joints and several layers of navigation.
The result is a site that does not try to simplify what Tesserae do, but to make the connections legible. An archive you can cross in more than one direction, where projects, places and themes meet and open a different route each time.
